Reece James explains what he will offer at Sheffield Wednesday

Published

on

Reece James has been reunited with Darren Moore, with Sheffield Wednesday completing a season-long loan agreement with Blackpool for the 28-year-old.

The Manchester United academy graduate has turned out 146 times in the third tier previously, mainly towards the top end, and will offer important versatility to Moore heading into 2022/23.

Initially, it would appear that James arrives in the squad to battle it out with Marvin Johnson for the left wing back berth, but he is also a capable central midfielder and can perform well in a variety of formations.

James explained why Moore was so pivotal in convincing him to join the Owls when he spoke to The Yorkshire Post.

He said: “He (Moore) is someone who I have worked with previously and I have probably had my best two seasons in football with him, so hopefully I can do that again.

“It is probably just from belief really and the way he likes to play is probably something that suits me as a footballer as well.

“I will bring a lot of energy and like to try and get on the ball and make things happen.

“With the gaffer previously, I had my best goalscoring ratio from a season, so hopefully I can achieve that again.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer business is not going unnoticed in League One, and the Owls will be desperate to hit the ground running with heightened expectations this term.

James is a very smart addition, and though he does not walk into the starting line-up, he is the type of player who can cover a lot of bases, that could end up being crucial in the relentless schedule of a League One season.

The way they are going this summer, anything but a top two finish will be deemed as a failure for the Owls, and it feels unlikely that Moore will receive as much patience at the helm, as he did last term.

James’ first season as a Blackpool player did not go as planned, only managing 15 league starts in the second tier for the Tangerines.

With two years remaining on his deal at Bloomfield Road it is likely that the 28-year-old has one eye on impressing to earn a permanent switch to Hillsborough.
