Redknapp’s Birmingham overhaul set to continue with 24-year-old told he can leave

Birmingham City striker Nicolai Brock-Madsen has been informed that he can leave the club on a free by manager Harry Redknapp, reports The Birmingham Mail.

The Dane moved to St Andrew’s back in 2015 after a long association with hometown club Randers, with whom he appeared 106 times and bagged 19 goals, before earning himself a move to England two years ago.

Yet things haven’t worked out for the 24-year-old at the Midlands club, with Brock-Madsen earning just eight first team appearances for the Blues, six of which coming in the Championship, before being shipped out on loan to Eredivisie outfit PEC Zwolle for the entirety of the 2016/17 campaign.

And although he seriously impressed there with ten goals in 25 games for the club, it appears that his time at Birmingham is coming to an end, with Blues chief Redknapp confirming that he is not in his plans as the 70-year-old looks set to continue his overhaul of the squad at St Andrew’s.

He said: ‘He’s a good lad but he’s not in my plans. If someone comes in he can go.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Birmingham fans who have seen the 24-year-old fail to net for their side in the past two years, yet produce some excellent form in the Netherlands last term to suggest that he has the potential to be a great striker.

Yet it’s potential which isn’t going to be fulfilled at Birmingham.

The Verdict: Nicolai Brock-Madsen’s exploits at PEC Zwolle last season breathed new life into his professional career, and even gave him the chance to salvage his flagging Birmingham career.

However, things haven’t worked out for the Dane during pre-season, and although he earned a place on the bench against Ipswich Town on Saturday, his time at the club is at an end.

Yet with ten goals in the Netherlands last season, he’s clearly got potential, but very much remains to be seen whether he has to leave England to pursue his professional career.
