Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp has rubbished recent speculation linking his side with a move for Jason Lowe, via The Birmingham Mail.

25-year-old Lowe remains without a club after leaving Blackburn Rovers at the expiry of his contract earlier in the summer, which brought the curtain down on a long association with the Lancashire-based club, having started out as a youngster all the way back in 2003.

The midfielder signed his first professional contract at the club back in 2009 and then went on to appear 196 times for Rovers in the succeeding eight years, 33 of which came in the Premier League between 2010 and 2012, and 140 of which came at Championship level.

Yet the former England Under-21 international remains without a club, and speculation earlier this week linked him with a move to Harry Redknapp’s Birmingham, as the 70-year-old seeks to bolster his midfield options at St Andrew’s.

However, the Blues chief has played down the speculation, saying when asked whether there was interest in the 25-year-old: ‘No, not really.

‘I don’t know where that one has come from to be honest with you.’

These comments are sure to intrigue Birmingham fans, who saw their side’s pursuit of Ogenyi Onazi came to an end earlier in the week after the Nigeria international failed to attain a work permit.

And it has generally been a frustrating transfer window for manager Redknapp and the Blues hierarchy, with just four players through the door so far, and it doesn’t look like Lowe will be another making his way to St Andrew’s this summer.

The Verdict: Jason Lowe saw his long association with Blackburn Rovers come to an end this summer, 14 years after he started out as a youngster at Ewood Park.

And it is somewhat surprising that a player of his quality and experience has yet to find a new club this summer, and Harry Redknapp’s comments suggest that it won’t be Birmingham who gives him his next career move.

The Blues boss has been frustrated in the transfer window thus far and saw a proposed move for Ogeyni Onazi fall through earlier this week to compound his irritations, and although Lowe would help him bolster his midfield ranks, it’s not a move the 70-year-old appears to be considering.

Only time will tell where Lowe ends up next, but it’s unlikely to be at Birmingham.
