Centre back Deji Oshilaja is set to join Burton Albion following his release from Charlton Athletic, a report from The South London Press has revealed.

Oshilaja joined Charlton back in the summer of 2019, and went on to make 47 appearances in all competitions for the Addicks, scoring once.

However, the 27-year-old was released by Charlton earlier this summer, following the expiry of his contract at The Valley.

Now though, it appears that Oshilaja is set to be playing in League One again next season despite his departure from the Addicks.

According to this latest update, Oshilaja has agreed terms on a move to Burton, with the defender now said to be close to finalising a deal with the Brewers.

If confirmed, Oshilaja will defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and winger Omari Patrick, who have joined from Oldham and Carlisle respectively this summer, in making the move to the Pirelli Stadium.

Striker Louis Moult is also reportedly set to sign for Burton, following his release from Preston at the end of last season, having scored eight goals in 40 appearances during an injury hit three-and-a-half-year spell with the Championship club.

The Verdict

I do think that this could be a decent deal for all concerned.

For Burton, they are getting a player with plenty of League One experience from his time with Gillingham, Wimbledon and Charlton, who could help to shore up their defence.

Oshilaja meanwhile, now gets the chance to continue playing in League One despite his Charlton exit, with a club who will be looking to build on an excellent end to last season.

Indeed, the recruitment that Burton have done already this summer does seem to be promising, and it will be interesting to see how far deals like this will be able to take them during the 2021/22 campaign.
