West Bromwich Albion have made an excellent start to the new season under Slaven Bilic and are starting to build some serious momentum.

After suffering play-off heartache last season, the Baggies have made a very promising start to life under their new head coach and there seems to be no stopping them at the moment.

Albion currently sit top of the Sky Bet Championship table - they're two points clear of second-placed Leeds United and have a seven-point advantage over Fulham in third.

They're unbeaten in their last nine matches and have won their last five, and are also the top scorers in the division too.

West Brom returned to the top of the league table on Monday night with a dramatic 1-0 at promotion rivals Preston North End - thanks to a 90th-minute penalty from Charlie Austin.

The game was decided by a controversial penalty decision, but there's no getting away from the fact that it was a massive result for the Baggies. Not only did it see them continue their momentum, but it also sent a huge statement to the rest of the Championship.

Austin has struggled to make the kind of impact at the many West Brom fans were hoping when he arrived at the club in the summer, but his late penalty at Deepdale was his third goal in as many games from the substitutes' bench.

Interestingly, West Brom have now scored more goals from substitutes than any other team in the Championship with nine.

This stat alone highlights how Bilic is building something special at The Hawthorns and even though there's still a long way to go in the promotion race, Albion's start to the campaign under him has given Baggies' fans every reason to feel confident.

Bilic brought in several new players in the summer and almost all of them have made an impact. The likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana have been magnificent, while Romaine Sawyers has also been outstanding.

He's also been able to get the best out of the players who were already at the club when he took over.

Just look at how much centre-back Kyle Bartley - a player who was often criticised by West Brom supporters last season - has improved and how Bilic has been able to get the best out of midfielder Jake Livermore too.

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has also improved massively and has kept five clean sheets in his last six away matches, while striker Hal Robson-Kanu has been in red-hot form in recent weeks, scoring five goals in eight games.

Bilic has been able to get the team playing breathtaking attacking football and he's also been able to assemble a squad with a lot of quality and depth in every position.

There's still a long way to go in the promotion face but Bilic's start to life in charge of West Brom has given Albion fans every reason to feel confident going of their side's chances of returning to the Premier League this season.
