When Bez Lubala decided to call time on his Birmingham City career earlier this summer in order to join Crawley Town, not many of the club's supporters would have been too worried about his departure.
A product of the Blues' youth academy, the forward had to wait until 2018 to make his debut for the first-team in a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City.
Whilst he did illustrate some signs of promise during this particular clash, the presence of Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams ultimately resulted in Lubala being forced to watch on from the sidelines for large of chunks of the previous campaign.
Limited to just three appearances in the Championship, his only start of the year came against Reading in the Carabao Cup in which he played as an attacking midfielder.
With his career stagnating due to a lack of first-team opportunities at St Andrew's, Lubala decided to drop down two divisions in order to sign an initial two-year deal with Crawley (via BBC Sport).
Although signing a player who had never scored a goal at senior level before was a risky move by the Red Devils, the 21-year-old's performances so far this season have been nothing short of exceptional.
After opening his Crawley account in a 2-1 defeat to Carlisle United, Lubala added to his tally with a goal against Salford City a week later.
The former Birmingham man then scored against Scunthorpe United before netting once again during the Red Devils' clash with Crewe Alexandra.
Despite being used predominately by the Blues as a centre-forward during his time at the club, Lubala has recently been converted into a winger by Crawley manager Gabriele Cioffi and is unquestionably thriving in this new role.
Following a stand-out performance against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup in which he scored the winning goal, Lubala has since taken his tally to seven for the season and is showing no signs of slowing down.
Considering just how impressive he has been for Crawley, it is hardly surprising that he is attracting interest from elsewhere.
According to the Daily Mail, a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are keeping tabs on him ahead of a potential swoop in the January transfer window.
Whilst Lubala will be flattered by this news, it may be worth staying at Crawley until the end of the current campaign as he will not be guaranteed first-team football if he decides to jump ship mid-way through the year.
For the Red Devils' sake, it is imperative that they keep hold of the attacker as doing so could result in promotion to the third-tier next May.
