Nottingham Forest picked up their first league win of the 2019/20 campaign on Saturday afternoon, easing past Birmingham City by three goals to nil at the City Ground.

Sabri Lamouchi's side would have been feeling full of confidence after a battling display against Leeds United at Elland Road last weekend, with the Reds also defeating Fleetwood Town 1-0 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

As expected, Lamouchi made nine changes to his side in midweek due to their huge amount of squad depth, with nearly 40 players on their books ahead of the final couple of weeks in the transfer window.

Forest have finally started to trim down their squad and get rid of the deadwood this week, though, with midfielder Adlene Guedioura departing the City Ground and signing for Qatari side Al Gharafa.

The 33-year-old was a regular under Aitor Karanka last season and made 28 appearances in all competitions, but managerial changes ultimately left him surplus to requirements under Lamouchi on Trentside.

Forest fans will be hoping that this is only just the beginning in terms of departures, as it is practically impossible for Lamouchi to keep every single one of his 40 players satisfied with their lack of game-time throughout the course of this season.

Another player who could well be axed is Claudio Yacob, a player in a very similar situation to Guedioura who has now moved onto pastures new.

Yacob, who arrived on a free transfer after being let go by West Brom last season, made 17 appearances for the Reds last season, with most of his game-time coming under Karanka as opposed to Martin O'Neill.

The Argentine is yet to make an appearance for the club this season, though, and didn't even make the bench against Fleetwood in midweek which really does speak volumes.

Summer signings Tiago Silva, Samba Sow, Alfa Semedo have all, as expected, been given the chance to impress Lamouchi and cement their place in the side this season, but the likes of Guedioura and Yacob have found themselves massively out of favour on Trentside.

Yacob has had no shortage of potential suitors over the course of the summer, with Olympiacos being linked with a move to sign the experienced midfielder.

At the age of 32, the midfielder is now entering the final year of his contract at the City Ground, and you wouldn't blame him for feeling like his future at the City Ground is looking uncertain, with less than a couple of weeks to go until the end of the window.
