West Brom remain convinced that their business model will not be impacted by Chinese spending restrictions in the way that it has harmed Aston Villa.

Like their West Midlands rivals, Albion are under Chinese ownership and the government in China have recently taken big strides to stop investors moving money overseas.

That has been given as a key reason for Villa's situation, with owner Tony Xia suffering serious cash flow problems because of this ruling.

However, the Express & Star report that The Baggies, unlike Villa, are not solely dependent on owner Guochuan Lai pumping his own cash into the club every month to cover costs.

Instead, they work under a ‘spend-what-we-earn’ model that means the club shouldn't face those issues in the future.

Although, West Brom did require an overdraft for the first time in ten years this summer and they will be aware that they have to cut costs accordingly in the next few months as they come to terms with relegation to the Championship.

The Verdict

With Villa's situation not helped by the laws in China it was inevitable that fans of any club under Chinese ownership would worry about how it could impact them.

However, as this report details, there is little for other sides to worry about providing you aren't relying on the individual putting their own money in every month.

Villa are an extreme example because they have made so many mistakes high up and West Brom should be able to manage their relegation and reduced income in a much better way.
