Danny Cowley has agreed to become manager of Huddersfield Town as he didn't want to be left wondering what might have been, the Daily Mail have reported.

The apparently soon-to-be-former Lincoln City manager has reportedly accepted a fourth offer from the Terriers to take over as manager at the club after turning down the chance to take charge at Huddersfield's Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday, who have since appointed Garry Monk as their manager.

After winning promotion as League Two champions last season, Lincoln currently sit fifth in League One, with four wins and three defeats from their opening seven league games of the campaign.

According to the latest reports from the Daily Mail, Cowley said goodbye to Lincoln's players and staff on Monday morning, and has revealed that he felt it was 'very important to leave on a positive note' but that he didn't want to 'die wondering what might have been' had he not taken on the role at Huddersfield.

Danny's brother and assistant manager Nicky, is also set to make the move from Lincoln to Huddersfield.

A quirk of the fixture list means that Cowley's first game in charge of Huddersfield will see them host Sheffield Wednesday at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers are currently 23rd in the Championship, after taking just one point from their opening six league games.

The Verdict

I can understand what Cowley is saying here.

You can never be certain when the opportunity to manage in the Championship is going to come along, so it was also going to be hard to turn such a chance down.

This will still be a huge challenge for Cowley even so, and it is testament to his confidence in his own abilities that he does not seem to be daunted by it.

That, however, is unlikely to be of any consolation to Lincoln, who are losing a huge symbol of their dramatic rise through the divisions in recent years.
