Albert Adomah turned down Leeds United last week as he preferred a move back to Middlesbrough, but both moves ended up collapsing as reported Birmingham Live.

Adomah, Villa's leading scorer and reigning Player of the Year, was surprisingly told by Steve Bruce he was free to find another club last week, following the arrival of Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie.

According to the report, it wasn't the first time that Adomah had been told he could leave, with a possible loan deal revealed before he scored 14 times last campaign.

He's been keen to sign a new deal at Villa Park, but was told to wait until the play offs were over. Subsequently he was offered significantly reduced terms, eventually being told he could leave the Villans.

Leeds and Boro, battling at the top of the table, both wanted him, but it has been revealed he favoured the move to the north east. He is said to still own property on Teeside and remain close to many Boro players. That resulted in Leeds dropping out of the race.

Sadly for Adomah, despite travelling to Boro's Rockcliffe training base, the deal collapsed. He wanted a loan move with a view to a permanent switch, but Boro were offering a loan only.

That has left the winger in limbo, surplus to requirements with his current employers, but unable to get a move until January. It's a stark contrast to last season when he was the darling of the Holte End.

The Verdict

Adomah has been treated terribly by Steve Bruce and the Birmingham Live report reveals that goes back a whole season. It seems his face doesn't fit, despite the goals and the award.

He must be gutted at missing out on a move, but he must shoulder some of the blame. Even a loan move would have brought some first team football and a chance to display his talents. Instead, he'll rot in the reserves and slowly fall out of potential employers minds.
