Sheffield Wednesday were without Liam Shaw this week after he’d been absent from training, it has been revealed by Neil Thompson.
Thompson remains in temporary charge of the Owls in the Championship and is currently tasked with guiding the club through a tough situation as they face a possible relegation.
There’s also the January window to contend with, and unwelcome news have began cropping up regarding Shaw.
Quiz: Who has done more of these 15 things out of Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United?
According to the Sheffield Star, Celtic want to sign the 19-year-old midfielder.
Further fuelling the speculation was the fact that Shaw missed out on Wednesday’s squad last night against Coventry City.
Thompson revealed (as per Yorkshire Live) that was because he hadn’t ‘been on the grass’ this week in training, not referencing the fact that there had been transfer speculation.
Without Shaw available, the Owls were beaten 2-0 by Coventry, plunging them deeper into trouble in terms of the Championship relegation fight.
Rotherham’s outstanding win over Middlesbrough means that they are now four points adrift of the side directly above them in the table.
You feel like the last week of the transfer window is going to see plenty of worry crop up surrounding Shaw.
He’s got Celtic hot on his heels and, whilst Wednesday would like to keep him, something might give between now and February 1st given his expiring contract.
Absences like this, plus responses like Thompson’s, will continue to add fuel to the fire surrounding a potential deal.
