QPR are rumoured to be interested in Ipswich midfielder Alan Judge, according to the East Anglian Daily Times via the Sun on Sunday [30/6].

It is a deal which would see manager Mark Warburton reunite with one of his former players, with Judge enjoying one of the most successful spells of his career when he played under Warburton at Brentford.

Judge is contracted to The Tractor Boys for two more years, which would mean it may take quite a significant fee for Ipswich to consider selling him, given that he should be one of their most important players next season.

The Irishman could be an ideal replacement for Luke Freeman however, as he looks likely to join Sheffield United for a rumoured £3m.

Naturally, QPR fans would be disappointed at losing such a talent, but their worries should be eased if Judge signs, as he would replace the creativity Freeman provides.

On top of that, he guarantees goals from midfield, which makes him a standout from the current crop of R's midfielders. In 2016/17 Judge was in remarkable form, scoring 12 and assisting 14 in the Championship, which earned him a call-up to the Republic of Ireland.

If he can get close to that he will be a big fan favourite at Loftus Road, and playing under a manager he knows well should give him the confidence to play to his best ability.

There is some doubt over whether he can hit those heights again. Since breaking his leg in 2016 he doesn't have the speed and agility he once possessed, and his form has taken a knock as a result.

He proved his fitness last season but only scored two goals all season, although no Ipswich players covered themselves in glory last season.

The big worry for QPR fans is that he is no longer at the same level as Freeman, and therefore is unlikely to provide as much service as he did, particularly from set-pieces.

Nevertheless, it could be an inspired signing, particularly if they don't spend too much on him. Warburton has done brilliantly to get the best out of players in the past, and with time Judge could become a very important player for QPR.
