Manchester United are targeting a move for Swansea City defender Joe Rodon based on the advice of Ryan Giggs, a report from The Daily Mirror has claimed.

The Old Trafford club are lining up a £20million move for the 22-year-old when the transfer window reopens, as they look to bolster their defensive line to give them the chance to once again compete for silverware at the top level, and it seems they are doing that with the backing of someone who knows plenty about both parties.

According to the latest reports, United are set to follow the advice of club legend Giggs in moving for Rodon, with the former Red Devils winger having handed Rodon four senior caps for Wales since last September.

It is thought that Giggs is a big fan of Rodon and has recommended him to United, something he also did with Daniel James last summer, with the success of that move apparently encouraging current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to once again listen to the advice of his former teammate with regards to Rodon.

A graduate of Swansea's academy, Rodon has made a total of 49 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh club, with his performances this season said to have caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including United's local rivals Manchester City.

There are currently just over two years remaining on Rodon's contract with Swansea, securing his future at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Verdict

It is no surprise to see United moving on Giggs' advice here.

When you consider the reputation that the now-Wales boss has at his former club, it is going to be hard for them to dismiss any of his suggestions for potential signings without first taking a look for themselves.

Indeed, when you consider the impact that Giggs' apparent previous recommendation for United - another Swansea product in Dan James - has had at Old Trafford this season, you feel the club will be more confident than ever about taking his advice with regards to Rodon.
