Huddersfield have completed their first summer signing with the capture of Tommy Elphick who has joined on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old was told he will be released by Aston Villa at the end of the month when his deal expires, and the experienced centre-back has agreed a two-year deal with the Terriers.

The Yorkshire outfit confirmed the news on their website yesterday, with the former Bournemouth man bringing promotion-winning experience to the group.

Elphick's latest success came with Villa, after Dean Smith recalled him from a loan spell with Hull in January.

He managed to force his way into the side, although an injury in early March against Derby was his final game in a Villa shirt as he couldn't win his place back after returning.

Nevertheless, his contribution to Villa was really appreciated and they joined Huddersfield fans in responding to this transfer news on Twitter.

Here's some of the reaction...
