Massimo Cellino’s spell as Leeds United’s owner is one supporters will want to forget, with the club making very little progress under the Italian on the pitch and creating plenty of headlines off it.

Leeds’ first full summer under Cellino was a busy one, with the Italian overhauling Leeds’ squad and arming David Hockaday with a number of new recruits.

Amongst those was Souleymane Doukara, who we take a look at in our FLW Rewind.

Doukara initially arrived on loan, before Leeds made that deal permanent just a matter of weeks later ahead of the transfer deadline in the summer of 2014.

The forward, who is now 26, looked like an exciting addition on paper, with Doukara possessing pace and size.

His early time at Elland Road saw Doukara show he had an eye for goal, but that wasn’t to be the case throughout his Leeds career.

In 93 appearances for the Whites, Doukara scored just 18 goals, not delivering the consistent numbers that were expected of him.

During his three years in West Yorkshire there were some good moments, with his volley against Nottingham Forest amongst the best goals Elland Road has witnessed. But those good moments were outweighed by some poor ones, with his involvement in the ‘sicknote six’ something that supporters were unable to forgive Doukara for.

In the summer of 2017, Leeds opted to terminate what was left of Doukara’s contract.

Overall, his spell at Elland Road was a disappointment, with the negatives outweighing the positives.

When a club announces a new signing there is always a sea of positive reaction, and Leeds were no different when Doukara’s permanent deal was announced. However, these supporters certainly judged Doukara too early…
