Bristol City had made an outstanding start to the Championship season prior to the international break.

Following their victory at Nottingham Forest, Dean Holden's men had climbed to the top of the league standings having picked up maximum points from their opening four matches.

However, since returning from the two-week break, the Robins have collected just two points from their three games, and needed a late Nahki Well's penalty to rescue a point against Swansea on Saturday.

Bristol City were without captain Alfie Mawson for the game at Ashton Gate, after the on-loan Fulham defender was taken off on a stretcher during their defeat to Middlesbrough four days earlier with a serious-looking knee problem.

Mawson faced an anxious wait to discover the extent of the injury, and City confirmed the bad news on Tuesday afternoon - which was the 26-year-old has undergone surgery, although they haven't put a timescale on a potential return date.

This is the third time Mawson has been operated on in the last two years, with the previous two operations forcing the former Swansea man to miss more than 30 games at Fulham.

Mawson has been in great form during his time with Bristol City, but now he's facing a spell on the sidelines, leaving several Robins fans disappointed - with many expressing their frustrations on Twitter.
