Sky Bet Championship side Derby County are reportedly interested in signing Everton defender Matthew Pennington in the summer.

The Rams were linked with a move to sign the defender in January, after impressing on loan at bottom side Ipswich Town this season, however a move failed to materialise.

But, according to journalist Andy Warren, the Rams are "expected" to go back in for Pennington in the summer. The 24-year old has endured several loan spells away from Goodison Park in his career, but has been limited to just nine senior appearances for the Toffees.

Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori have been magnificent at the back for Derby this season, but with the latter set to return to Chelsea in the summer, the addition of another centre-half certainly wouldn't go amiss.

Here, we discuss whether Pennington would be a good signing for Derby...

George Harbey

"I think Pennington is exactly what Derby need.

"He has been impressive for Ipswich this season and has already established himself at Championship level.

"If Tomori goes back to Chelsea in the summer, then he'd be the perfect replacement."

Jacob Potter

"Exactly the type of player they need to be targeting.

"He's proven in the Championship and would be an excellent long-term replacement for Richard Keogh.

"What a signing this would be."

Gary Hutchinson

"It’s a surprising one for me.

"He’s not impressed me that much at Ipswich.

"Then again, his Everton time is clearly coming to an end, so maybe a permanent move is what he needs to move forward."

Jay Taylor

"Really?

"I don’t see the fascination with this player and the top teams looking to sign him.

"I think Derby could do better, to be honest - it would be a waste of funds.

"Be it loan or permanent, I think the addition of Pennington will do little to get the Derby fans excited."
