Reading have had have an indifferent decade or two, fluctuating between the Premier League and the Championship.

The Royals were promoted to the Premier League in 2005/2006 under the management of Steve Coppell, getting a record points tally of 106.

The closest contenders were Sheffield United, who had 16 points less, so it highlighted a wonderful season for Coppell’s men.

Sadly, Reading were relegated in 2006 and spent the following four seasons in the Championship, before making a brief return to the top flight in 2012/13.

It has been up and down for Reading but fans will look back on this era with fond memories.

Relegation in 2012/13 was a particularly low moment for Reading. Brian McDermott failed to get the best out of his side and Nigel Adkins took over, but could not steady the ship.

A particular low point was the 3-0 loss to Wigan towards the end of the season. The match was a six pointer and virtually put the nails in Reading’s Premier League coffin.

Reading ended the 2016/17 season on a low, losing in the play-off final to Huddersfield. Despite this, it was a good campaign overall.

The season that followed was terrible. Jaap Stam was sacked in March, and Paul Clement was brought in to steady the ship.

Reading managed just 10 wins all season, and shipped 70 goals.

It could have been one of the moments of the decade, as Reading were 4-0 up against the mighty Arsenal.

It was remembered as one of the comebacks of the century, but for Reading, it was a truly embarrassing moment.
