The Royals sacked Clarke yesterday after their defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Thursday night, summing up a run of form that has seen them only win once in eight games.

Many fans lost faith in him after he flirted with a move to Fulham a few weeks ago, but decided to reject them to remain at the Madejski Stadium.

The current favourite to replace him is former Leicester City and Middlesbrough boss Nigel Pearson, but another to emerge on the shortlist is former Arsenal striker Bergkamp, who scored 87 goals in 315 appearances whilst with the Gunners.

He’s had coaching roles at Holland B team and is currently the assistant manager at Dutch Eredivisie side Ajax.

It is well known that he’s keen on getting into management – many have tipped him to become Arsene Wenger’s eventual successor at Arsenal – which perhaps means that Reading is just a stepping stone onto bigger and better things.

It remains to be seen who takes over at the Madejski Stadium, but whoever it is will need to reinstall confidence in a side which has lost three of their last four matches.

Reading fans… what do you make of this news? Should Clarke have been sacked?  Who do you want to replace him? Would Bergkamp be a good appointment? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
