Reading remain keen on signing Marcus Maddison this summer, with the Peterborough United forward potentially heading for the exit door at London Road.

According to the Irish Sun, Maddison remains a target of Reading, who are looking to reshape their squad after a difficult season in the Sky Bet Championship.

The same report confirms that Maddison’s release clause in his contract is at £2.5m, after an impressive year for Peterborough in League One.

Maddison scored 12 goals across all competitions during the 2017/18 campaign, assisting a further 23 over the course of the season.

The 24-year-old’s partnership with Jack Marriott (33 goals, five assists) has seen both attract plenty of interest, particularly after Peterborough’s failure to secure play-off football.

Despite a lengthy contract tying him to Peterborough, the club placed Maddison on the transfer-list earlier this month, with Darragh MacAnthony forced to admit that failure to secure promotion would lead to the forward leaving for a suitable price.

It appears that price will be £2.5m, according to recent reports.

The Verdict

Maddison has enjoyed a superb year for Peterborough, and Reading’s interest is hardly a surprise.

The 24-year-old is one of the most creative players in the Football League and has been influential over the last 12 months.

The reported fee is reasonable and could attract more interest in Maddison from other Championship clubs.
