Reading FC retained their status as a Championship club at the weekend, despite the Royals falling to a 2-1 defeat to play-off chasing, Middlesbrough.

Jose Gomes' side took the lead on the day, with youngster, Danny Loader netting a stunning strike from distance, which gave Darren Randolph absolutely no chance.

It was Loader's first professional goal, and he'll be keen to finish the season strongly when Reading take on Birmingham in the final game of their season.

Loader is an impressive raw talent, who still has some work to do in the professional game, but he's making good progress, that's for sure.

The attacking midfielder has made his way through the England youth teams, and played his part in the England Under 17's side that won the World Cup in 2017.

Loader's ability has divided the Reading fan base, with may questioning as to why he wasn't sent out on loan at the start of this year's campaign to help aid his development.

But we're starting to see why it was a smart move to keep him in and around the first-team squad for this season, where Reading have looked impressive under Jose Gomes.

There were serious concerns that the Berkshire-based side could drop into League One, but since Gomes was appointed, the Royals have never looked back.

Loader has been one of the players that have been given a chance under the newly-appointed boss, and he's starting to showcase his talent.

It was a stunning hit by the youngster against Boro, and it does make you wonder how far he can take this Reading side in the future after seeing a glimpse of his potential.

He's still at a young age and he'll be keen to prove himself with Reading next season, where it could be a make or break league campaign for Loader.

If he can build on this impressive showing, he'll be a key player for Jose Gomes' side next season, when they mount their challenge for a top-half finish, which certainly is achievable if Loader is at the top of his game.
