Reading sweating on key personnel as double setback lingers

Published

on

Reading’s survival chances have suffered a blow after it was revealed that keeper Emi Martinez and striker Nelosn Oliveira picked up injuries in the win over Ipswich on Saturday.

The three points were much-needed for the Royals, particularly with Rotherham also winning, but they came at a cost, with GetReading revealing the injury situation.

They state that both players will be assessed in the coming days but there are fears that Oliveira could be set for a fairly lengthy absence.

Boss Jose Gomes explained that the on-loan Portuguese man has a hamstring injury, which forced him off in the second half, and if it’s more severe than a strain he could be facing around a month out.

Meanwhile, things aren’t as severe for Martinez, who actually picked up his knock before the game in the warm-up but managed to play on and was superb against the Tractor Boys.

Nevertheless, he will be assessed and Gomes will be hoping it’s nothing to worry about with a crucial game against Wigan coming up this weekend.

The Verdict

This is very concerning news for Reading as both players are vital to this team.

In truth, the Martinez one doesn’t sound like it should be too much of an issue, so the real worry is about Oliveira.

He has clearly improved the side since arriving and has scored some vital goals already for his new club – including on Saturday, and they don’t really have a replacement that is as clinical in front of goal.
