Reading look set to miss out on the permanent signing of Nottingham Forest forward Jamie Mackie, according to HITC Sport.
The Royals are struggling to agree a fee with Forest to take the ex-Queens Park Rangers man to the Madejski Stadium on a permanent basis.
Mackie spent the whole of last season on loan with Reading as Forest looked to trim their squad.
The 29-year-old enjoyed a fruitful temporary spell with the club and helped them reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they were beaten by Arsenal after extra time.
Mackie netted six goals in 39 appearances at the club and Steve Clarke had indicated he would be interested in signing the player, who is equally comfortable playing a wide area too.
The news of the stuttering negotiations has alerted several other Championship clubs and he is set to be sought after during this transfer window.
Mackie will report back to pre-season training at the City Ground and Forest boss Dougie Freedman has hinted that he may be keen to have a look at Mackie as he makes his own plans for the 2015/16 season.
Forest fans.. Would you welcome Mackie back at the City Ground?
