Reading defender Alex Pearce is set to make a shock switch to Championship rivals Derby County, according to FLW sources.
The centre-back was the Royals’ stand in captain during last season after an injury prevented captain Jem Karacan from making any appearances before late in the season.
Since Steve Clarke joined the Royals, Pearce has looked far more confident at the back, and is one of Reading’s out of contract first team players this year, still discussing a new deal.
He’d be the second to snub a new deal at the Madejski after Adam Federici left to join Bournemouth this week on a free transfer – Jem Karacan and Stephen Kelly are all still in discussion over new contracts.
After links with newly relegated QPR and Leeds United, where the 26-year-old is now seemingly off the list of targets after Steve Head was given the boot by Massimo Cellino this week, his future is not destined to be with Reading, who he grew up watching.
