The news that everyone was expecting came yesterday afternoon, as Reading sacked Portuguese manager Jose Gomes after less than a year in charge of the Berkshire based club, with the Royal's form having been way below par so far this season.

With the Royals currently on a run of six league games without a win, it seemed almost inevitable that the former Al-Ahli boss would be given his marching orders, particularly with the Madejski Stadium outfit currently sitting in 22nd place of the Championship table after 11 games played.

Now, Reading's captain Liam Moore has opened up on his former manager's departure, with the ex-Leicester City man stating the following via his official Twitter account:

It is yet unclear how the rest of the Reading squad view the departure of the 49-year-old manager, with many members of the team maintaining something of a media silence since the news was announced yesterday afternoon.

The Verdict

From his post on social media, it would be fair to suggest that Liam Moore genuinely is disappointed about the way things have turned out for Gomes at Reading, with the former Bradford City defender having been made captain by the Portuguese manager earlier this year.

However some Reading fans may see this as Moore using the comments as a way to cover his back, with the squad's poor performances having ultimately cost Gomes his job at the Madejski Stadium, a fact that most Royals fans will no doubt be very disappointed by.

Ultimately, we are unlikely to ever know the true meaning behind this post by Moore, with Gomes expressing via a statement that was broadcast by the League Managers Association that he will never forget his time at the club, whilst he also stated that he was keen to:

"Wish Reading FC and the new manager all the very best of success in the future."

Which shows the true class of a man who well was held in such high regard by much of the Reading support, with many of the fans expressing their anger at his departure.
