Chris Gunter is set to sign a new deal at Reading, according to HITC Sport.

The Wales international defender has been attracting interest from the Premier League and the Championship but he is set to snub that interest and commit his long-term future to Reading.

Gunter played every single league match for Reading last year, racking up 46 Championship appearances and then three further games in the play-offs as the Royals were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield Town at Wembley.

Huddersfield Town were looking to rub salt into the wound and poach Chris Gunter this summer, having already snapped up Reading midfielder Danny Williams on a free.

They faced competition from Middlesbrough, who are looking at a number of right-back options as they aim to replace Antonio Barragan and strengthen in that department.

However, Gunter is ready to end all speculation about where he will be playing next season by pledging his future to Reading.

The 27-year-old, who has played over 200 games for Reading, is prepared to sign a new three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium.

This will surely fend off interest from potential suitors.

The Welshman was entering the final year of his deal and had a £1m release clause but has accepted a contract extension.

Gunter has played over 400 matches in his career and has 79 international caps so his experience could be vital as Jaap Stam prepares to launch another promotion challenge.
