Reading manager Jaap Stam is expected to sign a new two-year contract when he returns from holiday, according to the Reading Chronicle.
The former Manchester United defender guided Reading to the playoff final last season, only to see their hopes cruelly dashed when they lost on penalties to David Wagner and Huddersfield Town.
There has been plenty of murmurings around Stam’s future since that loss, but it now appears that Stam is set to put Reading fans’ minds at ease and sign a new two-year contract and continue the good work he has started already in Berkshire.
Stam only has a year left on his current deal, and a new contract will no doubt be good news to Royals fans, who have feared losing their impressive young manager to former club Ajax, and even Leeds United.
Reading were impressive throughout the season and surprised many by finishing in the top six, after just staving off relegation the season before.
Reading fans, what do you think to this? Pleased Stam is staying? Let us know in the comments!
