Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone has stated that he’s ‘expecting a call from Serie A’ having claimed he doesn’t have a future with the Royals.
The Italian shot stopper has spent the last year on loan at MLS side Minnesota United, where he was very successful and earned the title of 2019 goalkeeper of the year.
He never quite got going at Reading, and didn’t particularly impress for the Royals, although he did follow in the footsteps of one of the great Reading goalkeepers of recent times, Ali Al-Habsi.
Having taken over in December 2018, new Reading manager Jose Gomes brought in Emi Martinez on loan a month later meaning there was no reason whatsoever to keep Mannone sitting on the bench, not getting played.
Mannone has expressed that he doesn’t see a future at Reading and that he is expecting to end up playing back in his home country of Italy.
Speaking to Calciomercato, Mannone said:”On paper, the loan expires on Tuesday, December 31, so from Wednesday, January 1, I can move to a new club.
“At the end of the season, my contract with Reading ends and I don’t think I have a future there.
“I’m expecting a call from Serie A.”

It just didn’t work out for the goalkeeper at Reading, he has actually shown in previous years that he can be a good shot stopper but at the Royals he never quite got supporters talking about his saves enough.
The Italian will now be looking for a club to spend the majority of his later years at, as he looks to have a successful end to his career.
He did have a great time out in USA, and will go down as one of the great goalkeepers to have played for Minnesota.
