Reading boss Paul Clement is one a world-renowned coach and has worked with some of the biggest players at the biggest clubs in the world.

Being the assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti at clubs such as Paris Saint-German, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich is pretty impressive before trying his hand at first-team management with Derby Country.

Clement had worked at Chelsea’s academy in previous years and now finds himself the manager at Championship side Reading.

During his time in the elite world of football, the Royals’ boss would have picked up a wealth of knowledge on the game from the most prominent and most successful managers that football has ever seen.

Not to mention the contacts you would undoubtedly have exposure to, which would become useful later on in your career when stepping out of the shadow as a number two and decide to manage a club yourself.

Clement has the knowledge and the contacts in abundance, but should he be doing more to use those connections to sign players?

We discuss…

Alfie Burns

Absolutely, Reading’s supporters will be furious watching the likes of Forest, Derby and Leeds picking up talent from their contacts, whilst their club scrape the barrel.

Clement has worked with some of the world’s best managers, and over his career, he’s earned a good reputation.

I’ve no idea why he hasn’t put that to better use at the Madejski.

Chris Gallagher

I think so.

Reading look a few players short in key areas across the team. So, the manager should be doing all he can to add to his squad as it could be an important few weeks for the Royals.

George Dagless

He should because Reading need more.

For me, sometimes I think he was appointed thanks to that contact book as much as his managerial ability.

He's got great ties in the game and should perhaps look to use them more for Reading if possible.

I do understand if he wants to do things his own way instead of looking for handouts though.

Gary Hutchinson

Reading’s tough start is a bit misleading, they competed very well against Derby and were unlucky to lose the game, then they did the same against Forest.

On paper, it looks drab, but there’s plenty to be optimistic about, and surely that shows Clement hasn’t been far off in his transfer policy?

Perhaps a couple of exciting loan players from Chelsea would pepper the squad nicely, but I’m keen to see how his new-look side do against the likes of QPR, Hull and Sheffield Wednesday.

That is what their season hinges on, not against sides expected to do well.
