Championship side Reading have told midfielder Liam Kelly that he can leave the club on loan this month, according to reports from Football London.

Kelly, 23, is highly regarded by the Madejski Stadium faithful having been on the club's books since the age of nine-years old, signing his first deal for the Berkshire club in 2004.

But despite making 92 appearances for the Royals, the Republic of Ireland under-21 international has fallen well out of favour under new manager Jose Gomes, and is set to miss out on the trip to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Reports have now surfaced, however, that the Royals are allowing Kelly to leave on loan this month, and joins a host of Reading players set for the exit door before the transfer window slams shut next week.

Goalkeeper Vito Mannone, midfielder David Meyler and striker Marc McNulty look set to depart the club this week, as Gomes prepares to oversee a January overhaul as the Royals fight for survival.

The Royals currently sit 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship table, two points adrift of safety ahead of a massive game with Bolton on Tuesday night.

The Verdict

This is really surprising to see Reading allowing Kelly to leave this month.

Kelly has been really impressive for Reading over the last few years, especially under Jaap Stam where they reached the play-off final.

But there is real competition in midfield now however, especially after the signings of Ovie Ejaria and Lewis Baker on loan from Liverpool and Chelsea respectively.
