Reading manager Jaap Stam is top of West Ham's shortlist to replace Slaven Bilic, according to the Mirror.

Pressure is mounting on Bilic as results have taken another turn for the worst, with talk of a new contract set to one side until the summer as the Hammers consider their options.

The Irons have eyed up Stam's Championship rival Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United previous to now, but it appears that Stam's turnaround at Reading has seen him fly up their list of replacements.

He was only given a two-year-deal with the club last summer as Reading took a risk on allowing them to become his first club in management, but it does mean compensation won't be much if other sides do decide to come in.

And the former Manchester United defender has admitted he doesn't know where his future lies with a takeover of the club up in the air, telling the Mirror:

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future which I think is very important for myself and for the club. If you want to do something, you need to have a plan for what you eventually want to achieve.

“You need to know what you’re going to do with the team, the staff and the structure of the club.”

Whether West Ham do decide to move for him or not, what is for sure is that Stam will doubtlessly be subject to interest this summer, and Reading need to offer him a new deal before it's too late.
