Reading forward Yakou Meite has said he ‘feels at home’ in Berkshire, having signed a new contract to keep him at the club until 2023.

It’s been quite the week for Yakou Meite, captaining his club in the Carabao Cup last week, before the birth of child this week and his new Reading contract.

The Ivorian is a graduate of the PSG academy and moved to Reading in 2016.

He’s been the Royals main man up front since, scoring 15 goals in 58 games so far for the club.

A late consolation goal in the 4-1 loss at home to Fulham on Tuesday put Meite on four for the season, making him the club’s top scorer.

Speaking to the official club website today, Meite said:

“I am very happy, I want to say thank you to the staff at the club who trust and believe in me, so I am happy to sign an extension.

“I feel at home here. I am so happy to be signing an extension as I think I can help the team to reach what we want to do for the season. I hope we can do it and do it together with me."

Next up for Reading is a trip to Bristol City at the weekend.

Reading manager Jose Manuel Gomes will need his side at their best for the trip to Ashton Gate, and he’ll be hoping that Meite can repay him for the contract extension with a couple of goals.

The verdict

Meite has been Reading’s best player in their so far disappointing season.

The loss to Fulham took Reading down to 21st but they’ll be hoping that Meite can repay the club with some ever valuable goals in the coming games.
