Reading have identified Brentford left-back Yoann Barbet as a key target this month as Jaap Stam looks to beef up his squad after a tough first half to the season.

The Royals have failed to replicate the form they displayed last season where they reached the play-off final and are just five points ahead of the relegation zone.

Therefore, Stam is expected to be active during the window and according to HITC, Barbet is one player he wants to bring to the club this month and Reading have already made a bid for the defender.

Left-back has been something of a problem position this season for Reading following the injury to Jordan Obita with several players filling in over recent months.

However, prising Barbet from Griffin Park will be tough. The French defender has been a regular for Dean Smith's side with the Bees in a strong position to mount a play-off push for the final part of the season.

Yet, with 18 months left on his contract, now may also be the final chance that Brentford get to cash in on the player at his proper value.

The Verdict

Reading fans will be delighted to see that Stam wants a left-back and bringing Barbet to the club would be fantastic.

Realistically though, it's going to be hard to tempt him to the Madejski Stadium given the position of the two clubs and the player may wait until the summer.

Similarly, Brentford are not going to want to let him go given their position but it would be a good deal if it happens for the Royals.
