Reading are hoping to secure a deal for Swansea City midfielder Jay Fulton, according to respected journalist Alan Nixon.

The 24-year-old midfielder is not guaranteed starts at the Liberty, and made only a fleeting appearance in yesterday's 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

However, it would appear that his ability has gotten him some attention from other clubs, with the Royals and manager Paul Clement keen on adding the former Falkirk man to the ranks ahead of the transfer window slamming shut this week.

Fulton made the move to the Welsh side back in 2014, but has failed to establish himself as a regular for the Swans, meaning he could well be open to a move to the Berkshire club if the two sides can agree a fee.

However, a lot could well hinge on Swansea signing a replacement, with Sam Clucas expected to join Burnley, and the Swans interested in signing Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods in his place.

Reading got their own season off to a losing start after allowing Derby County run out 2-1 winners on Friday night. Manager Paul Clement will desperate to add some new faces ahead of Thursday, and has no doubt identified Fulton as someone he feels can make an immediate impact at the club.

Royals fans, what do you make of this? Good signing or pointless looking deal? Let us know in the comments!
