Reading manager Steve Clarke says that Chelsea loanee Nathaniel Chalobah is going to get even better.

Chalobah scored for Reading on Saturday

Chalobah found the net with a half-volley during the first half of Reading's 2-0 win over high flyers Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, a fantastic finish from Garath McCleary's inch perfect cross.

He's played every single game since arriving from Chelsea against Cardiff, in the FA Cup and Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday in the league. Reading are yet to be beaten since his arrival.

Already amongst the goals in his opening three, Steve Clarke has tipped the youngster for great things.

He told Get Reading: “Slowly he is getting up to speed.

“It was a tough week for Nathaniel because he hadn’t played a lot of football and I threw him into three games.

“I took him off at Millwall to give him a breather because I felt he was getting really tired in that game.

“And on Saturday he finished the game with a bit of cramp in his legs.”

The 20-year-old is renowned for being a more defensively minded midfielder, but showed his attacking threat after being deployed in a more attacking role last weekend.

Steve Clarke said: “Normally when he’s played in midfield Nathaniel’s been the holding player. But on Saturday I asked a different challenge of him.

“I asked him to be one of a midfield two and to get forward into the box.

“And the reason I asked to do that, as we all saw, was the quality of his finish.

“He has good qualities. He made on fantastic pass in the first half to Garath McCleary as well.”

Reading signed ex-Everton striker Yakubu yesterday on deadline day on a free transfer, which sent shock waves throughout the footballing world. It was one of the deadline's biggest headlines.

The win against Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday has boosted them up to 16th place on 34 points, level with every team up to twelfth and play Wolves this weekend.
