Beaten Championship play-off finalists Reading are leading the chase for Vitoria Sebutal defender Frederico Venancio, according to Portuguese media outlet A Bola (via Sport Witness).
The 24-year-old centre-back made his debut for the Primeira Liga outfit back in 2013, and has since then gone on to appear 131 times for the club, scoring seven goals along the way.
And 31 of those appearances came last season as the former Portugal Under-21 international helped the side to 12th place in the Portuguese top-flight, and his fine form for Vitoria Sebutal has attracted interest from around the continent.
And one side linked with a move for Venancio in recent times is Jaap Stam’s Reading, who will be looking to rebuild after coming agonisingly close to a return to the Premier League.
The Royals lost 4-3 on penalties to David Wagner’s Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final at Wembley last month, and attentions will likely be turning to how they can once again be challenging for promotion next time round.
And having conceded 64 goals in the league last term, the most of any side that finished in the top six, Stam may feel that defensive reinforcements are required, thus his reported interest in Venancio comes as little surprise.
However, with Romanian top-flight outfit Steaua Bucuresti also thought to be interested, a side who will have the chance to qualify for the Champions League in August, and with reported interest from Derby and Leeds as well, the Royals will have a battle on their hands to land the highly-rated 24-year-old this summer.
