Reliable sports journalist Peter O'Rourke has tweeted that Jaap Stam's Reading have made an approach to sign Derby's Ikechi Anya on loan.

Anya joined Derby on last summer's deadline day from Watford, and went on to make 27 Championship appearances, contributing just the one goal.

The 29-year-old would bring Championship experience to the Madejski Stadium, having spent five years at Vicarage Road, in which he helped Watford claim promotion in 2015, which allowed him to go on and make 29 Premier League outings for the Hornets.

The Scotland international would be Reading's eighth summer addition, following the likes of Vito Mannone and Sone Aluko to the club.

Jaap Stam's side sit 11th in the Championship table, with seven points after an alright start to the season. The Royals have lost a couple of games but have also picked up two wins as they hope to challenge for promotion once again this season.

The Verdict

Ikechi Anya is lacking game time at Pride Park, and has not featured in a handful of Gary Rowett's recent matchday squads, so a move away from the club could be a beneficial move. Reading have been keen to strengthen their attack in the final stages of the transfer window, and not only can Anya play in an attacking role, his versatility allows him to play as a full back too.
