Reading have today made a third bid for Coventry City striker Marc McNulty, according to Guardian journalist Ewan Murray.

Sky Sports reported earlier today that the Royals have already had two bids turned down for the 25-year-old with the second bid reported to be over £500,000.

But Murray took to Twitter to report what he had heard, writing: "Marc McNulty looks like a Scottish player moving up in the world... Reading have now made a third bid for him."

Reading will be on the hunt for a new striker this summer having really struggled for goals last campaign.

It's no surprise that McNulty is a top target for Paul Clement with the Scotsman bagging 25 times as the Sky Blues won the League Two play-offs last season.

With the striker entering the final year of his contract Reading will be hopeful of getting him in on the cheap, but at the moment Coventry are standing firm.

The verdict

This is the exact sort of player that Reading, and many other teams in the Championship, should be targeting.

Using the same Championship journeymen every season is fast proving a useless endeavour, so staking a claim to the goal machines in the lower leagues is definitely the way to go.

With the Royals only bidding £500,000 so far it is definitely worth pursuing more.
