According to HITC Sport, Reading have made a bid for Fulham’s David Button, as Jaap Stam looks to solve the Royals’ goalkeeping dilemma.

Ali Al-Habsi, last season’s first-choice, is set to leave the Madejski Stadium this summer, leaving Stam on the hunt for a new number one heading into the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season.

The Dutchman has identified Button as a potential replacement for Al-Habsi, and reports suggest that the Royals have made a bid for the Fulham goalkeeper.

The 28-year-old only arrived at Craven Cottage 12-months ago, and made 40 appearances for the Cottagers in the Championship last season, before losing his place in the starting XI towards the end of the campaign and missing out on the club’s play-off run, which was ended by Reading in May.

Button has a wealth of experience behind him, having also enjoyed a successful spell with another London club, Brentford.

The goalkeeper spent three successful years at Griffin Park, making 141 appearances for Brentford and helping them to the Championship’s play-offs during the 2014/15 campaign, before sealing a move to Fulham last summer.

Despite Reading’s eagerness to get Button to the Madejski, it remains to be seen whether Fulham will consider selling to a direct rival.
