Reading FC are set to replace Mark Bowen as their manager, just weeks before the 2020/21 season is due to get under way according to Berkshire Live.

The Royals have recently announced that Nigel Howe has left his role as the club's Chief Executive, with Dayong Pang being appointed as his successor.

But questions have been raised over Bowen's future at the club as well, with journalist Courtney Friday revealing that he could move to a Director of Football role in the near future.

Bowen took charge of the first-team back in October 2019, when he was appointed as the club's new manager, succeeding Jose Gomes.

The Welshman then guided the Royals to a 14th-place finish in the Championship in the 2019/20 season, and he would have been planning for the new season ahead.

Reading are due to get their new league campaign under way against Derby County on the opening day of the season, as they look to start the season with a positive result against the Rams.

Berkshire Live report that there is a strong possibility that Bowen will be replaced in the near future, although it remains to be seen as to which manager the club's owners will be targeting.

The Verdict:

This is a risky move.

The new season starts in a few weeks, and you have to feel as though the Reading owners should have made this decision a lot earlier than this.

This will disrupt their preparations for the new league campaign, but their owners clearly have a plan in place to replace Bowen as manager.

I get the feeling that the Royals are going to throw money at it this season, as they look to win promotion into the Premier League.
