Reading are set to be handed a major injury boost to their survival chances, with the news that Nelson Oliveira could be in line to return from injury sooner than first feared.
Sky Sports News revealed that the Portuguese forward could be set to return for the final three games of their season, as they battle to retain their Championship status.
Oliveira signed for the Royals on a loan deal until the end of the season from league-leaders, Norwich City in the January transfer window.
He has wasted no time in keeping the Royals afloat as well, and has secured Jose Gomes’ side vital points since moving to the Madejski Stadium.
Oliveira has three league goals to his name, including a fine strike against relegation rivals, Ipswich Town in early March.
But his contribution was cut short as he picked up a hamstring injury midway through the second-half, a game in which Reading went on to win 2-1, courtesy of Mo Barrow’s last-gasp winner.
It had previously been reported by BBC Berkshire, that Oliveira was set to miss the remainder of the season for the Royals with the injury.
But Royals supporters will fancy their chances at Championship survival with Oliveira on track to return from the injury sooner than first feared.
He won’t be involved in their next game though, as Reading look to pull clear of the bottom three with a positive result against Preston North End after the international break.
What a boost this could be for the Royals.
Oliveira has won them valuable points already this season and his return will be some of the best news all season for Reading supporters.
His return could tilt their survival chances in their favour.
