Reading FC see £7 million bid rejected for clinical Championship striker

Brentford have rejected an offer of £7m for striker Scott Hogan from Championship rivals Reading, HITC reports.

The 24-year-old has excelled with Brentford this season, scoring 13 league goals, and has fought back from early injury struggles that saw him spend 12 months on the sidelines after arriving from Rochdale two years ago.

Scoring seven goals in seven matches last term before continuing his form into the current season, Hogan is regarded as one of the finest strikers outside of the top-tier of English football and a number of Premier League and Championship clubs are eyeing his services.

However, Brentford are desperate not to lose their prolific star in January but Reading’s bid is unlikely to be the only offer the Bees have to fend off in the window, whilst Jaap Stam’s side could return with a fresh offer as they’ve made improving their front line their priority in the mid-season window.

Brentford currently sit 14th in the Championship table, 11 points off the play-offs, and face a difficult run of matches in the coming weeks as they clash with Norwich, Birmingham City and Newcastle United.

Whilst the Royals are currently sat in third position in the Sky Bet Championship and face a tricky test against Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham at the Madejski Stadium tonight.

The Cottagers downed the Royals 5-0 earlier this month at Craven Cottage, so Stam will no doubt be seeking revenge against the west London outfit.
