Sky Bet Championship side Reading have rejected a £450,000 bid from Wigan Athletic for defender Tyler Blackett, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old is yet to feature for the Royals following his red card against Millwall on Boxing Day, but has been a regular for the Berkshire club this term, making seventeen appearances in all competitions.
Able to play at either centre-half or left-back, the defender has recently emerged as a January transfer target for the likes of Middlesbrough and Stoke City, with Wigan Athletic also declaring an interest in the former Manchester United man.
Reports have now surfaced, however, that the latter have been a dealt a huge blow in pursuit of the defender, after seeing their reported £450,000 bid from the Latics, as they look to steer away from danger in the Championship.
Jose Gomes has failed to make the impact he would have originally liked to when he arrived at the Madejski Stadium a few weeks ago – the Royals sit 23rd in the Sky Bet Championship table, five points adrift of safety after just one win in their previous thirteen league games.
I thought Blackett would be on his way out of Reading in January, but this latest transfer development says otherwise.
£450,000 is hardly a lot for teams in the Championship nowadays, but with Gomes looking to plan a January overhaul, the money could have been beneficial in bringing new players to the club.
This shows just how much faith he has in Blackett.
