Reading are embroiled in a battle with French side Marseille for the signature of Frenchman Anthony Koura this summer, according to French outlet L’Equipe via Get Reading.
His contract with Nimes is over at the end of the season and he was initially in talks with Marseille over a deal, but after talks stalled, the Royals have offered the player a deal instead.
He scored 9 goals in 27 appearances and was linked with Arsenal earlier in the season, with the striker versatile enough to play on the wing.
But now it seems Reading are interested in a permanent deal as Marseille attempt to snatch him from under their noses.
He has played for France at multiple youth levels and would suit Reading who desperately need a striker.
They tried to answer their striker problem last year but Matej Vydra flopped on loan from Watford, Nick Blackman was sold to Derby County and Simon Cox was far too inconsistent.
The Royals have already secured the signing of Dutch defender Danzell Gravenberch this summer, and will undoubtedly be looking to utilise the transfer market heavily to help aid a potential promotion push next season.
