Yann Kermorgant has encouraged his teammate Lewis Grabban to work for an opportunity in the Reading first-team, having been used sparingly since his arrival, reports Get Reading.
Grabban arrived at the Madejski Stadium during the January transfer window, but has only made eleven appearances for Jaap Stam’s side, something Kermorgant believes is down to how well Reading have been performing.
Reading are currently fourth in the Sky Bet Championship, and are seemingly on course for a Play-Off appearance, with just five fixtures of the season remaining.
Kermorgant has offered Grabban some encouragement, claiming he will still have a vital part to play in Reading’s promotion push, he said: “You don’t just come in and start every game, you have to work hard and fight for your place.
“The team has done well so he hasn’t been given many opportunities to play.
“It’s a new style of play because Bournemouth play a bit differently.
“It’s not a problem though, as long as he stays fit and is ready to go when the gaffer needs him then that’s the most important thing.”
Stam’s side were handed a wake-up call in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, losing 7-1 to mid-table Norwich City.
That defeat ended a three-game winning streak, which had solidified Reading’s place in the top-six.
The Royals will be looking to put that defeat behind them when they face Aston Villa and Rotherham United over the weekend.
