Reading youngster Teddy Howe is set to move to League One side Blackpool on a permanent deal, according to Reading Chronicle's Courtney Friday.

The right-back hasn't had as many chances as he'd have hoped this season, and since Jose Gomes left the club, Mark Bowen has preferred Chris Gunter as a back-up to Andy Yiadom.

The 21-year-old did play in all three FA Cup matches that Reading were involved in this month, and despite impressing going forward, he looked defensively out of place at times.

He's set to join Blackpool on a long-term contract and could well provide them with a boost at the back as the Seasiders have stuttered of late in League One.

Howe is the son of Reading director Nigel Howe, so he won't just be leaving behind the club he was brought through as a youngster, he'll also be departing from his family.

The Verdict

He was once very highly-rated as one of the next best things to come out of Reading in terms of a defender coming through the ranks.

Howe has a lot of ability and has a knack of being a solid player when running at the opposition with the ball from full-back.

However, defensively he hasn't yet proved himself, and one would assume that this proved to be his downfall in terms of a long-term career with the Royals.

Blackpool will be delighted with the player and will feel as if they've got a very good man for League One level, and one that will improve as he gets older.
