Jose Gomes' Reading squad have recently arrived in Spain for their pre-season tour as they continue their preparations ahead of another season in the Championship.

It's set to be a summer of change at the Berkshire-based club, with a number of first-team players likely to be heading for the Madejski Stadium exit door before the new season gets underway in August.

Two players that have been linked with a move away from Reading are Garath McCleary and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who have started their pre-season plans at the club's training ground and away from the first-team squad.

McCleary took to Instagram on Monday to issue an update on their progress, as their futures remain unclear heading into the summer.

According to journalist, Courtney Friday, McCleary is attracting interest from an American club, whilst Bodvarsson has emerged as a transfer target for Millwall (according to The Sun).

The Icelandic international scored seven league goals for the Royals last season, but struggled with injuries in the second-half of last year's campaign.

Whereas McCleary made just 14 league starts for Reading last term, and has struggled to recapture his best form in recent months, which has seen Gomes not include him in his pre-season plans.

Reading are currently under a 'soft transfer ban' (according to The Sun),which means they have to get permission from the EFL to make any signings in the summer.

But any potential incomings will only occur if some of their high-earners are moved on early into the transfer window.

The Verdict:

I'm not surprised to see the pair not in the pre-season squad for the Royals.

They're going to be on relatively high wages, and a move elsewhere is going to be the best move for both parties heading into the new season.

They didn't feature much in the second-half of last year's campaign, and Gomes is making the right decision in looking to move them on as soon as possible.
