Reading FC have their fair share of players who simply aren’t going to be featuring for Jose Gomes’ side next season.

With the club trying to comply with FFP restrictions, it’s likely that we’ll see further departures from the Madejski Stadium as the transfer window progresses.

One man that certainly has voiced his eagerness to leave the Championship club is Scottish striker, Marc McNulty.

The 26-year-old spent the second-half of this year’s campaign on loan with Hibernian, as he looked to find regular game time away from Reading.

He did just that, and was in impressive form, having scored seven league goals in his time with the Scottish club.

In an interview with Edinburgh News, McNulty has evidently got his mind set on a permanent move to Hibernian, who are likely to be interested in signing him on a permanent basis in the summer.

McNulty struggled for game time with the Royals, and it certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him heading for the exit door in the coming weeks.

He’s a player that divided opinion amongst Reading supporters, but on his day, he could have been a useful player for Jose Gomes’ team.

But it was understandable to see him depart earlier this year out on loan, as competition for places up-front was extremely high, with the likes of Yakou Meite and Nelson Oliveira ahead of him in the pecking order.

But with Oliveira returning to Norwich City from his loan spell in Berkshire, McNulty is still likely to be down the pecking order in Gomes’ plans, with young striker, Danny Loader making a good impression on Gomes towards the back end of this year’s league campaign.

It’s been a move to forget for McNulty since he signed from Coventry City in 2018.

He’s been limited to just four league starts this season for the Royals, and they’ll certainly be looking to move him on at the earliest of opportunities.

They could get a relatively good fee for McNulty as well, with the forward impressing in recent weeks for Hibernian.

An interesting summer awaits at the Madejski Stadium, as their rebuild ahead of next season continues.
