Reading FC manager Steve Clarke has ruled out any possible chance of adding more loan players.

Clarke says there will be no loan deals

The Royals are going well this season and sit a point outside the play offs, with only three defeats so far this season.

After a summer of heavy recruitment, bringing in 13 players in total (although that includes players for the youth team), they now look like a team challenging for promotion.

Part of those 13 players were six loan players, Andrew Taylor, bought in from Wigan Athletic for the season. Ola John and Matej Vydra both arrived on loan on deadline day from Benfica and Watford respectively.

They also have Michael Hector, who was sold to Chelsea and loaned back on deadline day, as well as Alex Fernandez, on loan from Espanyol.

You're only allowed five loan players in a Championship match day squad, meaning Steve Clarke has to leave out one player each game, and therefore has ruled out making any more signings.

He told Get Reading: “With us having six already, the loan option wouldn’t actually make the squad any bigger because I would then have to leave two players out every weekend.

“We’re looking around but I’ve got no immediate plans to do anything with the squad.

“We’re heading into another international break which is a good time to clear up the bumps and bruises.”

Reading fell to a disappointing draw on Tuesday night with Huddersfield Town, a game that subsequently saw Town manager Chris Powell sacked.

The Royals travel to Wales to face Russell Slade's Cardiff City on Saturday, in a match that the Berkshire club will be desperate to win, to get back to winning ways.
