Reading FC lining up deal for 23-year-old striker, player to undergo medical

Latvian striker Deniss Rakels will undergo a medical with Reading ahead of a proposed move to the Championship side, according to Polish publication SportoweFakty.
The 23-year-old, who plays for KS Cracovia in the Polish league, missed training with the club in order to travel to the Madejski after the Royals met his release clause, believed to be in the region of €500,000.
However, it’s claimed that Rakels, who has 15 caps for his country, has travelled to England without permission from his current club.
The forward has made 20 appearances in the Polish Esktraklasa this season, scoring 15 times for Cracovia, including eight in his last six outings.
Rakels came close to joining another Championship side in 2013, having spent the summer on trial with Brighton & Hove Albion, but he was unable to secure a contract with the Seagulls, despite scoring in a pre-season friendly.
If he completes the move, Rakels would be the second striker to join Reading this week, as Brian McDermott’s side completed a deal for Bournemouth’s Yann Kermorgant yesterday.
